Florence Pugh Shares Insights on Christopher Nolan’s Apology to Her

Florence Pugh recently shed light on the reason behind Christopher Nolan’s apology to her, shedding insight into their interaction regarding the film “Oppenheimer.” Released last month, the film features Pugh as the character Jean Tatlock, a psychiatrist and physician who plays a crucial role in Nolan’s production. Tatlock’s character is entwined in a complex web of relationships, including a romantic connection with J Robert Oppenheimer, played by Cillian Murphy, and a romantic partner of Katherine Puening, portrayed by Emily Blunt.

Florence Pugh, recognized for her role in “The White Lotus,” opened up about her experience in an interview with MTV UK. She shared, “I wasn’t entirely sure about the project or what was being created.” Elaborating on Nolan’s approach, she recounted, “Although what I did know was that Christopher Nolan wanted me to understand that it wasn’t a substantial role, and he would completely understand if I chose not to take it.” The 27-year-old actress emphasized, “However, my response was, ‘It doesn’t matter. Even if I’m a coffee maker in the background of a café, I’m in.'”

Pugh crossed paths with Nolan while filming Zach Braff’s 2023 drama “A Good Person” in New York. She recalled, “I remember him apologizing for the size of the role. I told him, ‘Please don’t apologize,'” she recounted. Pugh went on to reveal, “Then he said, ‘We’ll send you the script, and honestly, just read it and decide if it’s… I completely understand the concern about the role’s size.'”

Reflecting on her choice to join the project, Pugh shared, “I distinctly recall that evening when I received the script thinking, ‘I don’t need to hesitate… I know I’m going to take it.'”
